Researchers unveil new nano-data technology

Researchers at IBM have created the world’s smallest magnetic digital-storage device, using just 12 atoms to hold a single data bit of information. The discovery could lead to a new class of memory chips that would make smaller, more energy efficient computers. Al Jazeera’s Tarek Bazley reports.

IBM will be taking orders soon.. The drive comes preloaded with the entire INTERNET. With sustained read speeds 45 GB per second (read speeds go up with density too, not that is an accurate number)

@JogBird Why not work w/ quartz? Marcel Vogel former IBM great had visions of data storage embedded into quartz crystal. It’s really not so hard to envision after all the plastic in CD holds information and memory, just the same as any platter style drive.
In theory you could manufacture them to be extremely small and they could hold more data.

Soon we’ll be able to implant extra memory chips into our brains, its possible we’ll be able to learn all the worlds languages, at least to a basic level. You could store images from your eyes, memories. Exams will be redundant. At first only the wealthy will be able to afford this technology, leading to an elite class… etc, etc dystopian sci fi film storyline.
